Ancient Connections is an exciting cross-border arts, heritage and sustainable tourism project funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales co-operation programme. The project is multi-partner collaboration led by Pembrokeshire County Council, together with Wexford County Council, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Visit Wexford.
Ancient Connections is reviving and celebrating the ancient links between communities in North Pembrokeshire and Wexford, from the Stone Age through to Mediaeval pilgrimage, and more recent history.
The project’s aim is to motivate both Welsh and Irish communities to rediscover their shared heritage; to be mentors for one another; sharing knowledge, experience and skills and building new friendships to create a stronger sense of identity and place that will continue to flourish in years to come.
Project activities include: commissioning of new artworks, revival of traditional skills, promoting pilgrimage in the modern world, archaeological digs, storytelling and gathering, live music and schools projects, as well as mentoring and support for businesses and community projects.
We worked with the project to create a unique and beautiful website. We took existing illustrations and logos and created a set of motion graphics to add movement to the site and built on the available branding to create a bespoke design theme for their online presence.
The website required various integrated functionality to allow the project managers to engage with the wider community including a translation management system, event calendar systems, categorised project databases – fully tagged and filterable, private member areas where volunteers can access resources and join discussion forums, a CRM system and an interactive story map.
